How to get rid of mice without poison? Effective traps and mechanical solutions

Mice in the home can damage food, packaging and other materials and cause hygiene problems. Mechanical traps are a practical rodenticide-free solution, particularly when the problem is detected early and only a small number of rodents are present.

Mouse droppings, gnawed packaging or scratching at night are signs that action is needed. If you want to remove mice without rodenticides, mechanical traps, glue solutions and, for an individual mouse, a live-catch trap are the most practical options. The key is to place the trap directly on the mouse’s movement route while removing alternative food sources.

For a single mouse or activity detected at an early stage, use a snap trap, glue trap or live-catch trap. Place traps along walls, behind cupboards and appliances, and near droppings or gnaw marks. If activity is higher, use several traps at the same time. If the problem keeps returning or the number of mice increases, mechanical control may no longer be sufficient.

How do you know if you have mice in the house?

  • Mouse droppings and movement marks along walls
  • Gnawed packaging, cables, wood or plastic
  • Scattered food and damaged supplies
  • Scratching or rustling, especially at night
  • Nests made from paper, textiles or insulation material

Which mechanical solution should you choose?

Benefit

Single mouse

Ratimor PLUS Mouse Trap

Fast mechanical capture and reusable design.

You want to monitor activity

Ratimor PLUS Glue Book

Large double adhesive surface for capture and monitoring.

Dusty or less visible area

Ratimor PLUS Glue Board Tunnel

Tunnel shape protects the adhesive; peanut aroma increases attraction.

Larger rodents or rats

Ratimor PLUS Glue Board Extra

Increased amount of adhesive for a stronger hold.

Single mouse you want to catch alive

Live-catch trap

Capture without rodenticide and without killing the animal.

Where should you place a mouse trap?

Mice mostly move along walls and edges, so do not place traps in the middle of the room. The best locations are along walls, behind the refrigerator or cupboards, near pipes, by openings and wherever you have found droppings or gnawed packaging. If activity is higher, use several traps and check them every day.

5 mechanical solutions

  1. Ratimor PLUS Snap Trap Mouse: A classic snap trap for fast mechanical capture. Place it at a right angle to the wall, with the trigger section positioned on the mouse’s movement route.
  2. Ratimor PLUS Glue Book: A large double adhesive surface for mechanical capture and monitoring of rodent activity indoors.
  3. Ratimor PLUS Glue Board Extra: A stronger adhesive solution for larger mice and rats; suitable for warehouses, basements, garages and agricultural buildings.
  4. Ratimor PLUS Glue Board Tunnel: A discreet solution for mice. The tunnel shape protects the adhesive surface from dust, while the peanut aroma increases attraction.

The most common mistakes

  • The trap is placed in the middle of the room instead of along a wall.
  • Only one trap is used even though signs of activity are present in several places.
  • Traps are not placed on the mice’s actual movement routes.
  • Food remains freely accessible and is more attractive to the mouse than the bait placed in the trap.
  • After capture, the entry point is not sealed, allowing mice to return.

When is mechanical protection no longer enough?

If signs of rodents continue despite correct use of traps, if the level of activity is higher or the problem keeps returning, it makes sense to consider a broader control strategy. In such cases, rodenticide baits may also be used.

Ratimor Brodifacoum Soft Bait is particularly suitable for indoor areas and is characterised by exceptional palatability.

Ratimor Brodifacoum Wax Blocks are more suitable for damp and demanding areas and around buildings.

Important Always use rodenticide baits in accordance with the product label and in suitable tamper-resistant bait stations. Handle them using disposable protective gloves.

How can you prevent mice from returning?

  • Seal openings around pipes, doors, vents and installations.
  • Store food, seeds and pet food in closed containers.
  • Regularly remove crumbs and other food sources.
  • Keep the area around the building tidy and remove hiding places.
